About this service
During the period of pregnancy, a woman’s body changes drastically, and with that, she feels tired and bloated.
How it works
During pregnancy, there is an increase in hormone production. It leads, among other things, to a greater tendency for sodium reabsorption and as a result, water retention, which produces swelling.
Lymphatic drainage will reduce stress hormones and increase the blood flow around your lymphatic system to flush out toxins and water retention, allowing a healthier environment for the growing foetus. This has the added benefit of providing the foetus with a better quality of nutrients due to the increased blood flow. The treatment also relaxes and relieves muscle tension and pain, decreases anxiety, and helps to alleviate puffy faces, ankles, feet and the feeling of heavy legs.
Our Lymphatic drainage treatment is a full body treatment (not the face). Our beauticians can prioritise problematic areas, assessing the presence and progress of diastases, reversing the pelvic technique in the case of C-sections, preventing any occurrence of venous return and relieving areas of tension from a safe and anatomical standpoint.
As Lymphatic drainage is a detox massage, it improves circulation and metabolism and is highly recommended Postpartum too. It aims to flush away excess fluids (including those received via IV during labour or delivery) and rebalance hormones, getting the body into a healing mode and reducing downtime post-pregnancy.
Frequency:
While pregnant we recommend Lymphatic drainage once or twice a week. Post-partum it is recommended straight after a normal delivery and 14 days after a C-session, again once or twice a week.
Lymphatic drainage is also highly recommended for those undergoing IVF, especially around periods of hormonal suppression, stimulation and egg collection. Hormonal fluctuations during IVF can cause side effects such as water retention, breast tenderness, mood changes, hot flashes, bloating and constipation. This can all be minimized and better managed with manual lymphatic drainage
